A former CEO with well developed leadership skills and international
experience, Al brings to his clients a practical approach to
handling their challenges.
Al's expertise in people management and team leadership has
allowed a number of organizations and individuals across a wide
variety of industries to successfully achieve higher productivity
and profitability. He is described as a decision enabler -- assisting
executives and entrepreneurs to focus on key objectives and to
resolve conflicting issues.
With his ability to quickly grasp critical strategic issues
and identify areas of weakness and opportunity, Al has repeatedly
helped his clients to think critically and creatively, resulting
in better actions and outcomes.
Al started his career selling consumer products in south western
Ontario. He progressed rapidly in his first pharmaceutical company,
rising through a variety of sales and marketing positions. He
personally supervised the design and building of a new pharmaceutical
manufacturing facility, on time and under budget. In 1981 he
was named President of the Canadian operation and led the company
to exceptional results.
Moving to the United States as Executive Vice President, Al
re-engineered the marketing and sales functions and turned around
the fortunes of two declining major brands.
He returned to Canada in 1986 as President & CEO of a
money-losing affiliate of a major international corporation.
With a rapid turnaround, he led the company through successive
years of record growth and achieved the highest profit margins
among affiliates worldwide. During his tenure he rejuvenated
a mature brand to become the top prescribed medication in Canada
and orchestrated Canada's most successful new Rx product launch
of 2001.
Al's forte has been in motivating, developing and leading
people, and in building and directing successful business teams.
He has mentored regional and country managers for international
affiliates and directed international teams for product line
acquisitions. He oversaw the merger of affiliates of two companies,
in record time and with vastly improved financial results.
He has served as a director and officer of several boards
for both Companies and Associations. Al studied Civil Engineering
at McMaster University.
A founding member of the International Association of Coaches
and a member of the International Coaching Federation, Al ensures
that he maintains the highest professional skill levels by regularly
participating in coaching, leadership and teamwork training.
